Device Topology & Electromagnetic Behavior

A 3-port non-reciprocal component using biased ferrite discs under a permanent static magnetic field. RF energy entering Port 1 exits exclusively at Port 2; energy entering Port 2 exits at Port 3; and energy entering Port 3 exits at Port 1. Allows simultaneous transmit and receive over a single shared antenna.

ANALYTICAL FORMULATIONS & S-MATRIX MAPPING
[S] = [ 0 , 0 , e^-jφ | e^-jφ , 0 , 0 | 0 , e^-jφ , 0 ] (Ideal Circulator Scattering Matrix)
• Unitary, non-reciprocal S-matrix demonstrating unidirectional clockwise circulation.
f₀ ≈ (1.841 c) / (2π R √(ε_f μ_eff)) (Resonant Ferrite Disc Radius R)
• Center operating frequency governed by the magnetized ferrite puck radius.
Recommended Substrate Stackup

Alnico/SmCo permanent magnet biasing over YIG (Yttrium Iron Garnet) or Ni-Zn ferrite discs on RT/duroid 5880.

Nikola RF Fabrication Directives
  • Precision cavity pocket milling for flush ferrite puck epoxying.
  • Shielded mu-metal casing to prevent magnetic leakage into adjacent amplifiers.
